Controversy

Change of Name

Daniel Benson, whose stage name was Buju or Bujutoyourears, changed his name from Buju to BNXN on February 17th, 2022. Daniel was known as Buju until he discovered that Buju Banton is a popular Jamaican Grammy award-winning singer. Benso explained on his Twitter account that he had been mistaken for the singer, so he changed his name to BNXN, which is pronounced like his first name, Benson.

Ruger vs. Buju

On July 14, 2022, while engaging his fans on Twitter, Ruger threw shade at Buju when asked if “his record label boss D’Prince had told him that Buju BNXN was a better singer and his granddad in music.” Ruger stated that the difference between him and BNXN is that all of his hits were solo, rather than featuring or covering other artists’ songs, as Buju did. The singer also stated that he is always proud to go on stage around the world and perform his hit songs while watching people sing along without any assistance.

Ruger’s response to the question, which didn’t go down well with a lot of fans, was “I love Buju.” He’s good, but he’s not better than me. Everything I’ve done since the beginning was only RUGER. All my hits are JUST RUGER. I’m always proud going on stage around the world with my own hits and everyone is singing along. You see the difference?”

However, Buju replied to him by saying, “You are owing your boss money and you are talking to a boss?”

Buju’s fight with the Police

Buju was seen in a video that trended on social media where he was involved in an altercation with them. He accused a police officer of slapping him and spat in the face of the officer while saying he was proud of his action.

The police media officer, Hundeyin, made it known via his Twitter page on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, while reacting to a tweet shared by the pop star.

“@BNXN proudly tweeted that he ‘spat in [sic] a police officer’s face and it felt so good.’ He has since deleted the tweet. The police officers will be sanctioned for their misbehaviour if established, while @BNXN will surely answer for his assault on a police officer, ”
