Bobrisky, the controversial crossdresser, is expected to be released from the Kirikiri Correctional Center on August 5.
On April 12, Lagos high court judge Abimbola Awogboro convicted Idris Okuneye, a social media sensation, to six months in prison for abusing the naira.
Awogboro’s ruling further said that the sentencing did not include the option of a fine. The judge ruled that the jail term began on March 24, the date of her arrest.
On Wednesday, a prison insider told Punch that “Bobrisky will be released on Monday, August 5”.
Bobrisky’s lawyer, Ayo Olumofin, confirmed the development to the news site.
“Yes, it’s about that time for him to be released. There is nothing specific that would be done during his release. I might not go. I’m engaged outside Lagos. Maybe other lawyers will go,” he said.
In April, the crossdresser, charged with four charges of naira abuse, submitted a notice of appeal, disputing the six-month prison term.
Bobrisky hoped that the court of appeals would overturn the sentence and replace it with the option of a N50,000 fine for each offense.
