Daddy Showkey was born on the 4th of August, 1970, in Ajegunle, Lagos State. He hails and grew up in Lagos State, which falls in the southwestern geopolitical zone of Nigeria.


In the late 1990s, Daddy Showkey began his musical career. He began by singing ghetto-style music in his neighborhood. He is regarded as the father of Nigerian dancehall music. He sings in pidgin English rather than Jamaican patois. The AJ singer invented the “Galala” dance move, which quickly gained popularity in the 1990s.
