Davido is the second son and last child of Dr Adedeji Adeleke, one of Nigeria’s richest men; his late mother, Vero Adeleke, was a university lecturer until her untimely death. David grew up in Lagos, Nigeria. In Lagos, David Adeleke attended the British International School. Before moving to Nigeria, Davido studied business administration at Oakwood University.

Davido became interested in music while attending Oakwood University. He purchased musical equipment and began making beats, as well as recording vocal references. He dropped out of Oakwood University after receiving poor grades and relocated to London, where he concentrated his efforts on vocals rather than production.

 

Biography

Davido was born David Adeleke on November 21, 1992 in Atlanta, Georgia, to the wealthy Nigerian family of Dr. Adedeji Adeleke and his late mother Vero Adeleke. Davido’s father is the CEO of Pacific Holdings Limited and a co-founder of Adeleke University in Osun state.

He attended British International School in Lagos before moving to Alabama, US, at the age of 16, to study business administration at Oakwood University.

While at Oakwood, he purchased musical equipment and began producing beats. He also formed the music group KB International with his cousins B-Red and Sina Rambo.

Davido left Oakwood University to pursue music full-time and moved to London to work on his vocals.

His music career was put on hold after he returned to Nigeria in 2011 and agreed to honor his father by enrolling at Babcock University. Davido received a music degree from Babcock in July 2015, after his father paid the university to establish a music department for an inaugural class of one.

 

Music Career

Davido made his global debut in October 2011 with the release of his hit single “Dami Duro,” produced by Shizzi. When Dami Duro’s video was released in January 2012, it quickly became the talk of the town, receiving massive airplay across Nigeria.

On July 17, 2012, the Dami Duro singer released his debut studio album, Omo Baba Olowo (Child of a Wealthy Person), through the HKN Music Record Label.

The album was filled with hit songs, and he gained more fans as a result. Since then, he has released countless singles, bringing him popularity, money, and international recognition.

OBO was executive produced by Davido, who collaborated with other producers such as Jay Sleek, Spellz, Maleek Berry, and others. It featured well-known artists such as Sina Rambo, Ice Prince, Kay Switch, B-Red, 2 Face, and Naeto C.
