Get to Know Agbu Kefas, Ex-military Man Who is Now Taraba Governor-elect

Retired army lieutenant colonel Agbu Kefas was declared the winner of the March 18, 2023 Taraba gubernatorial election. He ran on the Peoples Democratic Party platform (PDP).

Kefas was born in Wukari, Taraba State, on November 12, 1970. He attended the Nigeria Defense Academy in Kaduna, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Defense Studies in 1994. He then went on to the University of Ibadan for his Masters degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology.

He also earned a Master of Public Administration from Delta State University. He received a certificate in Executive Education Senior Executive in National and International Security from Harvard Kennedy School.

Kefas retired from the military after 21 years of service. Between 2013 and 2015, he was appointed Chairman of the Governing Board of Directors of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

Kefas was elected Taraba State State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2020. In 2022, he was elected as the PDP’s flagbearer for the 2023 gubernatorial election. He was declared the election winner in March 2023 with 257,996 votes, defeating close rival parties NNPP and APC.

Kefas is married to Patience Kefas and they both have four children.
