Guinness World Record for Longest Cooking Marathon Broken Again

Once more, the renowned Longest Cooking Marathon Guinness World Record has been surpassed.

On Thursday, December 28, 2023, Ugandan chef Mama D smashed the record by cooking for over 119 hours and 57 minutes. The previous record was set by Irish chef Alan Fisher back in November.

Mama D intends to continue cooking through the new year. She would have been cooking nonstop for nine days if she was successful.

The record set by Nigerian chef Hilda Baci, who cooked for 93 hours and 11 minutes in May of this year, had been surpassed at the time by Irish chef Fisher.

After Baci broke the record this year, it shot to new heights of notoriety, and now many chefs are vying to do the same. At the time, Baci was receiving a great deal of support from politicians, influencers, and celebrities. Tiwa Savage, a popular musician, and Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also made appearances at the venue to show support. Baci soared to the top of the nation’s Twitter trend table that entire May weekend.

Since shattering the record, Baci’s celebrity has grown even further, leading to major endorsement deals with companies including Gino and Woodsscope, a Nigerian manufacturer of kitchen appliances and accessories.

Despite breaking Fisher’s record, Mama D, the Ugandan chef, will not officially hold the title of Longest Cooking Marathon record unless she receives certification from the Guinness World Record, which has been awarding certificates to record holders since the event’s founding in 1955.
