Here’s Why Nigeria’s Dara Treseder is the World’s Most Influential Black Marketer

Dara Treseder is a Nigerian marketer that has dominated the sector. She came from a less fortunate household and battled for the necessities of life, yet education was valued in her family. Her grandfather had to completely empty his bank account to pay for her education in America. Treseder went to Harvard University and graduated with honors.

Treseder would go on to hold prominent marketing positions at companies including General Electric, Apple, and Goldman Sachs. She was the Chief Marketing Officer of GE Business Innovations and GE Ventures at GE.

Her appointment as Senior Vice President, Head of Global Marketing and Communications by Peloton, the world’s largest interactive exercise platform, was one of her most significant career decisions. She was named to Forbes’ inaugural CEO Next list, which included 50 CEOs on the verge of leading America’s most powerful and recognized companies. Following this, AdWeek named her one of the Women Trailblazers, Inc. Magazine named her one of the 30 Inspirational Women to Watch in Tech, and Business Insider named her one of the Top 25 Most Innovative CMOs in the World.

According to Forbes, Treseder has gone from Peloton to Autodesk, a worldwide B2B digital company, with the aim of rethinking the enterprise’s go-to-market strategy. She is also in charge of the company’s global marketing, brand and communications, global demand creation, and education business teams.

Forbes named her one of the top 50 most influential Chief Marketing Officers (CMOs) for her stellar career in marketing, branding, and communication. She was ranked number 23.

“The 2023 Forbes World’s Most Influential CMOs List, again recognizes the 50 chief-marketers whose influence on their brands, businesses, culture, people, and the global marketing community, stand apart. Along with this year’s Forbes CMO Hall of Fame inductee, the thinking, approach, work, leadership, impact, of this year’s 50 honorees—28 of whom make the list for the first time—merits not only celebration but consideration as there is much to be learned from them,” Forbes wrote.

According to Forbes, the procedure started in 2023 with an initial eligible universe of 2,892 brands or entities that appeared in one or more of seven unique and reliable data sources. Sprinklr gave research knowledge, while LinkedIn provided more data. According to Forbes, the 50 CMOs on the list are from companies headquartered in 13 different countries and have direct influence over hundreds of brands across industries.

According to the platform, the CMOs honored on the list have also represented firms that employ nearly 12 million people globally and have a market valuation of approximately $9 trillion (as of May 12, 2023).

According to Forbes, Treseder is doing very well at Autodesk, having already unveiled three of the company’s first broad-reach advertising campaigns — the Game of Thrones finale, The Oscars, and the company’s involvement in assisting France in rebuilding the Notre Dame Cathedral.

According to the platform, as of April, the company reported YoY quarterly sales growth of more than 8% as a result of Treseder’s marketing influence.
