‘I Deserve to Win 20 Grammy Awards’ – Davido

Davido, the Afrobeats musician, expressed his joy to be nominated for the 2024 Grammy Awards.

The 66th edition of Grammy Awards will be place on Sunday, February 4, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

The 31-year-old is a first-time nominee in the newly established ‘Best African Performance’ category.

Davido also received nominations in two more categories: ‘Best Global Album’ for his current album, ‘Timeless’, and ‘Best Global Music Performance’ for his hit ‘Feel’.

In an interview with France 24 TV, the ‘OBO’ hitmaker, who has been in the music industry for 13 years, stated that he “deserved to have clinched 20 Grammy Awards”.

Davido also thanked the Recording Academy for eventually honoring him for his hard work over the years and efforts on his previous album.

“A shoutout to the Recording Academy.” This is my first-ever nomination. So it’s insane to have three nominations at once. We worked very hard on this album and record. I was always patient. If you ask me if I’ve ever deserved a Grammy, I’ll tell you that I already have 20. Even before this year. However, as previously stated, God’s timing is ideal. “We will see what happens,” he stated.

“God has the perfect time. However, you are aware that African music has been dominant for many years. So, if you’re wondering if we should have received acknowledgment since, the answer is clearly yes. But everything takes time. And, as I previously stated, God has the finest timing. I am pleased with this category.

“Not only for myself, but also for the other nominees who were nominated with me. It’s incredibly gorgeous. People back home may create African music and win Grammys. So that is very fantastic to witness. I would not say “late.” I’ll say “God’s timing.”

The ‘Assurance’ hitmaker released his fourth album, ‘Timeless’, on March 31, 2023.

On April 10, the album ranked 37th on the US Billboard 200 chart.

On August 3, ‘Timeless’ topped one billion streams across all major platforms.
