Denilson Igwe, a Nigerian comedian, claims he is the true originator of Mark Angel Comedy.
Mark Angel Comedy is a comedy channel on YouTube that achieved popularity in 2013.
It has almost 9 million subscribers and over 1 billion views.
It is thought to be led by Mark Angel and has featured other comedy performers such as Emanuella and Denilson Igwe.
In a teaser for an upcoming podcast episode, Igwe stated that he started the comedy with his boss’ camera, but Mark Angel monetized it without his permission.
He claimed that the station formerly earned $160,000 per month, but Angel only paid him N50,000.
Igwe further claimed that those who speak out against Angel “either die or get involved in an accident”.
“I was the one that started Mark Angel Comedy. Mark was the elder brother of the house. He was a security in Kilimanjaro, Port Harcourt. I was learning photography with a man called Ifeanyi,” Igwe narrated.
“So I stole the camera. In our own free time, I will do comedy.
“So Mark said we should open a Facebook page and I agreed but I didn’t know when it was monetised but I kept doing it.
“Suddenly in 2020, he bought a car so I asked how he got money to buy a car. He said someone gave it to him.
“So I said okay but the thing is I have not received N1000 since that time.
“So he started paying Emmanuella N20,000 monthly. In 2016 was the first time he gave me N50,000. He said I should hold it, saying, ‘You know this thing doesn’t bring money’.
“We were making $160,000 then. The only person that can talk about him is me because I’m an orphan, he can’t kill me.
“People say if you talk about him, you will die.
“I was scared because he would just finish you. If you have a problem with him, it’s either you die or get involved in an accident.”
