Alice Iyabo Ojo (born 21 December 1977) is a Nigerian film actress, director, and producer. She has featured in more than 150 films, as well as producing over 14 of her own.
EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION
Alice Iyabo Ogunro was born on December 21, 1977, in Lagos, though her father was from Abeokuta. She was the eldest of three siblings, with two older brothers. She attended National College, Gbagbada, in Lagos before going on to study Estate Management at Lagos State Polytechnic.
CAREER
She began her acting career in 1998 after participating in a drama group in secondary school. “So after I had come of age, I went to Bimbo Akintola, after watching one of her movies,” she has said of her beginnings. and told her I wanted to be an actress, and she assisted me. I registered with the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) with her help, and she then showed me around, introducing me to many of the people she knew in the industry.”
Ojo has written and appeared in a number of Nigerian films. Her first English-language film role was in Satanic in 1998. She made her Yoruba-language debut with Baba Darijinwon in 2002. Silence, starring Joseph Benjamin Alex Usifo, Fathia Balogun, and Doris Simeon, premiered at the Silverbird Cinemas, Ikeja in Lagos in January 2015.
Ojo began producing her own films in 2004, with the first being Bolutife, followed by Bofeboko, Ololufe, Esan, and Okunkun Biribiri.
PERSONAL LIFE
When she married a Lagos-based movie marketer in 1999, she took a break from her career. She gave birth to a son in 1999 and a daughter in 2001, but she is now divorced from their father. Her first marriage ended in divorce because she married too young. She has stated her desire to stop using her ex-surname, husband’s Ojo.
PINKIES FOUNDATION
Iyabo Ojo launched her NGO, Pinkies Foundation, which caters to the children with special needs and the less privileged on May 2011. She celebrated the fifth anniversary of the foundation on 1 May 2016 at the R&A City Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.
