Yemisi Akintoye, a Nigerian elite referee with a FIFA badge, has been named to the African Women’s Champions League in 2023.
The University of Lagos graduate was one of 17 African referees shortlisted for the competition, which will be held in Cote d’Ivoire from November 5 to November 19.
The Confederation of African Football announced Akintoye’s participation in the 2023 African Women’s Champions League in a statement issued on Monday, November 6.
It was announced that Akintoye would be officiating with Salma Musaganda of Rwanda, the first African woman referee to work at the men’s World Cup.
In 2021, Akintoye was designated as a FIFA Referee. She has competed in a number of international tournaments, including the WAFU Women Champion’s League and the Aisha Buhari Tournament, among others.
