The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, had on Friday, March 24th during its 50th Convocation Ceremony, graduated over 14,000 students, with 246 graduands receiving First Class Honors.

According to the University’s Vice Chancellor, 5,092 graduated with second-class upper, 7,865 with second-class lower, 1,088 with third-class, and 17 persons bagged a pass degree.

Of the over 14,000 students, 3 students, Ifunanya Stephanie (Accountancy), Ogugofor Obianuju (Pharmacy), Eze Shadrach (Pharmacy), had a tie CGPA of 4.95 out of 5.0, earning them the University’s Overall Best Graduating Students.

Socialite and Billionaire, Obi Cubana, the Chairman of Cubana Groups was among the dignitaries invited to the Convocation Ceremony.

Gracing the occasion, the Philanthropist, who in recent times changed the life of a Street Hawker, announced that he will award One Million Naira each, to the Three Overall Best Graduating Students.

He further added that he will award Five Hundred Thousand (N500,000) each to all the Best Graduating Students in the 17 Faculties UNN currently has.

The Don, who is also an alumnus of the University, also offered One Million Naira (1,000,000) to the Best Student in Political Science Department, the department he graduated from.

In total, Obi Cubana awarded at least Twelve Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N12,500,000) to the Best Graduating Students.

In addition to the above monetary awards, the University Management, out of its generosity, offered N25,000 each, to the three overall best-graduating students.

This ridiculous generous amount UNN gave her best students, is coming barely a few months after the University hiked its fees by over 100%.

UNN, among other institutions, is well known to offer discouraging monetary rewards to its best students.

But you might say they have improved, since in the past they reportedly offered N500 to their overall best students.

Brilliant students’ can now only hope that their Institution invites Philanthropists like Obi Cubana to give a befitting reward for their hard works.
