President Bola Tinubu congratulated Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), on being awarded the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo Prize for Leadership.
Adesina joined the ranks of past winners of the honor, including Nigeria’s Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka; former South African President Thabo Mbeki; and lawyer-educationist Chief Afe Babalola.
Tinubu, in a statement signed by his media aide, Ajuri Ngelale, praised the AfDB President for his visionary and noble efforts to transform African agriculture and ensure food security on the continent, recalling the growth enhancement schemes he implemented as Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The President praised Adesina’s spotless record, tried and true integrity, as well as his great leadership and development efforts, particularly in agriculture, which have garnered him several global accolades and recognition, including the World Food Prize in 2017.
Tinubu wishes the AfDB President continued success and strength in his service to Africa and mankind at large.
On Wednesday, many African leaders, including current and former governors, gathered in Lagos to present Adesina with the prize.
