Liz Benson’s full name is Elizabeth Benson. She is a prominent multi-award-winning Nigerian actress, television host, and philanthropist.

Early Life & Education

Liz Benson was born in Etinawa, Akwa Ibom State, on April 5, 1966. She finished her primary and secondary education in Akwa Ibom. After receiving her West African Senior School Certificate, she relocated to the United States to complete her education. Liz Benson attended Sylvania State College in the United States of America and graduated with a degree in Dramatic Arts. She dabbled in acting in her youth.

Career

Liz Benson began her acting career when she was five years old, in 1971. She had an appearance on the television soap opera Fortunes in 1993. Benson portrayed Mrs. Agnes Johnson in the NTA Network soap drama that aired for nearly two years. In 1994, her role in the popular home video film Glamour Girls, which dealt with the problem of prostitution, cemented her status as a film actress. Benson abruptly retired from performing in 1996. She became a Christian after returning to Nollywood, where she now works full-time as a bible preacher. In an interview, she defended her decision to only act in films that she felt were compatible with her faith.

Personal Life

Benson’s first husband, Samuel Gabriel Etim, died when she was in her twenties. She remarked that his character provided her courage, allowing her to raise her children despite her loss. The actress attempted marriage again after her conversion. She married Bishop Great Ameye of the Freedom Family Assembly in a low-key court ceremony in Abuja in 2009 at the Rainbow Christian Assembly in Warri, Delta State. The couple is active in an Evangelical Christian ministry. Benson is an evangelist, while Ameye is a pastor in Warri, Delta State. Delta State is home to evangelist Benson and her husband. They co-direct the ministry Freedom Family Assembly.
