Early Life

Sam Dede, a renowned Nigerian award-winning movie actor and director, was born in the 1960s in Lagos, Nigeria to Pa Dede and Elsie Iyenginabaibo Abel Dede.

Sam was born on November 17, 1965, in Ogbodo, Okrika Local Government Area, Rivers State. Rivers State is a Nigerian state in the south.

As a ‘Lagos Boy,’ the actor attended both elementary and high school there.

Sam studied and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts from the prestigious University of Port Harcourt (UniPort), Rivers State.

Dede returned to the University of Port Harcourt after completing his National Youth Service (NYSC). He studied and earned a Master’s Degree in Theatre Arts this time.

Career

Dede began his acting career shortly after the formation of Nollywood. Simply put, he is one of the forefathers of the Nigerian film industry (Nollywood).

He has been in the film industry for more than two decades. His breakthrough came with the film ‘Igodo,’ which went on to become a box office success.

Lecturer, Sam Dede is a senior lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt’s Department of Theatre Arts. He also teaches at the University of Lagos.
