Anthonia Yetunde Alabi, also known as the First Lady of Nigerian Hip Hop, is a Nigerian rapper, musician, businesswoman, lawyer, and motivational speaker who goes by the stage name Sasha P. She rose to prominence at a time when there were few Nigerian women in hip-hop. Her success paved the way for other female rappers and performers in Nigerian hip-hop. In 2008, she was the first Nigerian female artist to perform at the World Music Awards.
Early Life and Education
Anthonia Yetunde Alabi was born in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria on May 21, 1983. She was the last of eight children, and after her father died, she was raised by her single mother, an educator known as Sisi Fadekemi.
She completed her primary and secondary education in Ibadan before enrolling in the International School of Ibadan. Sasha later earned a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Lagos.
Career
Sasha P thrived in what was perceived to be a male-dominated industry, where artists created club bangers that got listeners moving. During her prime, the rapper earned the title “first lady of Nigerian hip-hop” because she was the most well-known female figure in the genre.
She rose to prominence at a time when there were few Nigerian women in hip-hop. Her success paved the way for other female rappers and performers in Nigerian hip-hop. She was honored for her hit singles Emi Le Gan and Adara, as well as many other firsts for Nigerian women. She was also well-rewarded.
She began working on musical projects after being signed to ELDee’s Trybe labels. Sasha P has remained one of Nigeria’s most well-known female performers since 2001, particularly following the widespread success of her debut album, First Lady, on her record label STORM. She released the song “Bad Girl P” in 2012.
Fashion Business
Sasha P announced in 2013 that she would be leaving the music industry to focus on her fashion company. Sasha P began her fashion career as a bespoke designer in 2004. In December 2011, she launched L’Espace, a Nigerian high street fashion label. In August 2012, she debuted her own clothing line, Eclectic by Sasha, which she had created.
In 2014, she also entered the footwear industry with a luxury sneaker line made in Italy. Her vision was to create a homegrown, more affordable footwear option, which gave birth to the Made In Nigeria ORK Shoe Line, which currently has 11 designs.

Impact and Influence
Sasha P once stated, “I feel as an individual, I have a social responsibility to make a difference any way I can,” and she has consistently kept this promise over the years. She took part in the “Save a Street Child” campaign in Lagos in January 2009, as well as the “Maternal Mortality” project in May 2009, which aims to educate and assist young mothers seeking appropriate medical care. As a motivational speaker, she has also taken part in a movement to reduce violence against women. Sasha P carried the Olympic torch for Nigeria in 2012.
