Di’Ja (born August 14, 1989) is a gifted Nigerian singer. Hadiza Blell-Olo is her given name. She is currently signed to Mavin Records. Her debut single, “Rock Steady,” was released in 2009 and was nominated for Best Urban/R&B Single at the 2009 Canadian Radio Music Awards. In addition, she was named Best New Artist at the 2008 Beat Music Awards.

 

Early Life & Education

Di’Ja was born on August 14th, 1989. She has lived in the US, Canada, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone. Amb Joseph Blell, her father, is from Sierra Leone, and Asma’u Blell, her mother, is from Northern Nigeria. Di’Ja holds a bachelor’s degree in both biology and psychology.

 

Career

Her musical career began in 2008. Di’Ja released several singles in 2012, including “Dan’Iska (Rudebwoy),” “Hold On (Ba Damuwa),” and “How Can We Be Friends.” On February 14, 2014, Di’Ja signed a record deal with Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records. On the same day, her first official song with the label, “Yaro,” was released. It incorporates Hausa and Krio dialects to honor her heritage in Sierra Leone and Nigeria.

Di’Ja was featured on the song “Dorobucci” in May 2014, alongside other label members Don Jazzy, Dr. SID, Tiwa Savage, D’Prince, Korede Bello, and Reekado Banks. She also appeared on “Arise” with Don Jazzy and Reekado Banks. Di’Ja’s extended play Aphrodija, which features Tiwa Savage and Reekado Banks as guest vocalists, was released on December 15th, 2017. She performed the hit song “one talk” at the Calabar edition of Globacom Telecommunication Company’s Mega Music Nationwide Tour in May 2017.

Personal Life

She got married in 2015 at a very private wedding. This was just about a year after she started dating her hubby in 2014. For a very long time, no one knew Di’Ja was married or anything much about her personal life, which for many people was a pleasant surprise. The couple had their first child in 2016. The Singer welcomed her second child, a baby girl in March 2018. The couple is blessed with three children.
