Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has stated unequivocally that Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar are unfit to lead the country in 2027. This follows a recent meeting between both opposition leaders, which the APC described as a desperate attempt to challenge the existing government.
On Tuesday in Abuja, Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) met behind closed doors. This meeting sparked rumors that they would band together to win the next election against President Bola Tinubu.
The APC’s spokesperson, Felix Morka, denounced the meeting in a statement titled “Atiku, Obi united by mutual desperation.” He claimed that the gathering was more about preventing President Tinubu from getting reelected than about making things better for Nigeria.
The APC noted that both men have frequently switched parties, raising questions about their ability to be trusted as leaders. “Peter Obi might return to the PDP, while Atiku might join the Labour Party. “This just goes to show how frequently they switch sides,” Morka explained.
The party praised President Tinubu’s efforts to improve Nigeria and increase prosperity. “The talks between Atiku and Obi don’t threaten the progress President Tinubu plans to keep making,” Morka said.
The APC is unequivocal: they perceive the potential alliance between Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar as a means to seize power, not a genuine plan for the country’s future. As the 2027 elections near, the party urges Nigerians to select a stable and dependable administration over questionable promises from politicians who frequently alter their political allegiances.
