Akintola Akin-Lewis, popularly known as Akin Lewis, is a Nigerian film actor, director, and producer, who is very popular in Yoruba films and sometimes in Nollywood movies.
Early Life & Education
Akin Lewis was born on April 7, 1957, in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, in Nigeria’s southwestern region. He received both his primary and secondary education in Lagos State. He continued his education at the University of Ife, now known as Obafemi Awolowo University, where he earned his B.Sc. Following his B.Sc, he was awarded a scholarship to pursue his Master’s degree at the University of Sophia in Sofia, Bulgaria, where he earned an M.Sc in Dramatic Arts.
Career
In 1973, the same year he began his acting career, Akin Lewis joined a theatrical club led by Nigerian writer and dramatist Professor Bode Sowande. In 1980, he rose to prominence as the title character in the comic film Why Worry, which aired on NTA Ibadan. He won the award for best actor based on the series in 1982. Tade Ogidan’s 2005 film Madam Dearest catapulted him to national prominence. Over the years, he had appeared in, produced, and directed a number of films. He appeared in Niji Akanni’s 2010 Nigerian film Heroes and Zeroes, as well as Tinsel, a Nigerian soap opera that premiered in August 2008.
Akin Lewis worked in business for over 20 years before becoming famous, eventually rising to the position of Senior Executive Director. He worked for NTA, Globacom, and the former Owena Bank, among other companies. He is currently the rector of Graig-Phillips College of Technology, a film school in Shonibare Estate, Maryland, Lagos.
Personal Life
Much of Akin Lewis’s personal life is not published online, but it is widely known that he is married. Although, it was reported that he already had two failed marriages.
