Mr Ibu, also known as John Okafor, is a Nigerian actor and comedian born on October 17, 1961. Okafor is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most talented and well-paid comedians. He has appeared in over 200 Nollywood films, including Mr.Ibu, which was released in 2004.
Early Life & Education
Mr. Ibu was born in the Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria. Okafor moved to Sapele to live with his brother after his father died in 1974, after finishing elementary school. In Sapele, he worked menial jobs to support his family and pay for his education. Following that, he worked as a barber, dabbled in photography, and interned at a furniture manufacturer. He was accepted to Yola College of Education after secondary school but dropped out due to financial concerns. As soon as he could afford it, he enrolled in the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT).
Career
John Okafor debuted in the Nigerian film industry, also known as Nollywood, in 1998. However, at the time, film directors and producers did not recognize his acting talent. However, a few months later, John Okafor began appearing in films and television reality shows. He was cast in minor and supporting roles and performed admirably in them. He claimed that he had to travel from Enugu to Surulere in Lagos to attend movie auditions, and that he was repeatedly rejected and denied movie roles because he was not as attractive as other guys on the audition grounds, and that most directors prefer to cast handsome guys in their films.

Mr. Ibu went through a near-death experience after being poisoned by his employee, whom he claims were hired by his relatives to kill him. He made this known as the reason why his stomach got so huge he couldn’t see his legs, He ascribed his survival to God.
