Esther Omolayo Kolawole is a Nigerian wrestler who competes in the freestyle 62 kg division and represents her country internationally. During the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, she won bronze in the women’s 62 kg division.

Early Life and Education

Eather Kolawole was born on January 4, 2002, in Lagos State, Nigeria. She also had her primary and secondary school education in Lagos State, but the names of the schools are not known to the public.

Career

Kolawale’s career began with a gold medal at the 2018 African Youth Games. She was crowned Nigeria’s wrestling champion after winning the gold medal match in the 55 kg freestyle category at the Nigerian National Sports Festival in December 2018. In February 2018, she also won gold in the 61 kg cadet division at the 2018 African Wrestling Championships.

She won the gold medal in her division at the 2020 African Wrestling Championships in Algiers, Algeria. She did not achieve Olympic qualification for the 2020 Summer Games in Sofia, Bulgaria, in May 2021. She competed in the women’s 55 kg division at the World Wrestling Championships in Oslo, Norway, in October 2021, where she lost her second bout.

In the women’s 57 kg freestyle event, she finished third and earned a bronze medal at the 2021 U23 World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, in November 2021. In 2022, she lost her bronze medal match in the women’s 57 kg category at the Yasar Dogu Tournament in Istanbul, Turkey. At the Commonwealth Games, she also won a bronze medal in the women’s freestyle 62kg category.
