Early Life & Education
Seyi Babatope was born in Nigeria and spent his childhood there. He eventually moved to the United Kingdom and Los Angeles to study, work, and live. He graduated from California State University Northridge with a degree in Cinema and Television Arts. Seyi Babatope began her film career as an intern at A Band Apart Productions, founded by Lawrence Bender and Quentin Tarantino, before being mentored by Ridley Scott’s son, Jake Scott.
Seyi worked on film and television sets in Los Angeles, as well as commercials, one of which was for Range Rover, as an artist who was always aiming for greatness. Seyi, who visits Nigeria frequently, was at the forefront of the video production wave that helped Nigerian music acquire international exposure in the early 2000s. When Love Happens, the first of Seyi’s five films to date, was a box office success in four countries, including the United Kingdom. Seyi moved back to Nigeria roughly six years ago. When Love Happens went on to receive award nominations, festival selections, and even the first-ever licensing on Netflix, the world’s largest online TV platform. Seyi has since produced four more feature films, as well as television shows, music videos, and advertisements.
