FULL LIST: ‘Anikulapo’, ‘Mami Wata’ Win Big at AMAA 2023

The films ‘Anikulapo’ by Kunle Afolayan and ‘Mami Wata’ by C.J Obasi were among the top winners at the 2023 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).

On Sunday, the 19th annual awards were held at the Balmoral Convention Centre inside the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

‘Anikulapo’ earned two awards: the Ousmane Sembene prize for Best Film in an African Language and the Best Achievement in Production Design for Pat Nebo, the late art director.

Similarly, ‘Mami Wata’ earned three awards: Best Achievement in Make-Up, Best Achievement in Cinematography, and Best Nigerian Film from the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVB).

Tobi Bakre and Nse Ikpe Etim won Best Actor/Actress In A Leading Role as well.

This year’s award event, which recognizes excellence in the African film business, was hosted by Nancy Isime, Rahama Sadau, and Richard Ato Turkson.
