Governor Sanwo-Olu Invites DSS to Join Probe of Mohbad’s Death

The governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has requested operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) to participate in the ongoing investigation into Mohbad’s death.

The 27-year-old singer died on September 12 and was buried the next day.

The circumstances surrounding his death have sparked debate on social media.

On Monday, the Lagos state police command established a 13-man special investigative team to look into the singer’s death.

The Lagos commissioner of police, Idowu Owohunwa, has vowed to utilize all lawful means to apprehend everyone charged in the case.

In her remarks about the inquiry, Sanwo-Olu also urged the DSS to “extend the dragnet through inter-agency collaboration and the use of best-in-class technology to unearth the truth.”

The state government requested anyone with important information on the singer’s death to aid the investigation team in a statement issued on Tuesday by Gbenga Omotoso, the state’s commissioner for information.

“Further to this and to boost the investigation, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has invited the Department of State Services (DSS) to join the investigation and widen the dragnet with inter-agency collaboration and the use of best-in-class technology to unearth the truth,” the statement reads.

“Consequently, the Department of State Services (DSS) has also joined the investigation so as to get justice for the youngster, his family and teeming fans. The Government pleads with all those who may have vital information that may assist the investigation process to avail the investigating team of such.

“The government also appeals to the investigating team to guarantee the confidentiality and protection of all witnesses who may come forward with vital information or indicative evidence that may assist the process.

“Besides, the grieving family should be allowed to mourn their loss in peace. It is, indeed, a difficult time for us all – the government, the family and MohBad’s fans. Any action that can aggravate the grief should be avoided.

“The Police and the DSS have been admonished to brief the public on their efforts periodically.”

The governor also urged friends and fans of the late singer to refrain from making harsh remarks and reaching hasty judgments about the situation.

Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, previously reported that his son died after an extra nurse was called to inject him.

Omowunmi, Mohbad’s lover, also spoke of the singer’s problems when he was alive.

The police had already suggested the potential of exhuming Mohbad’s body.
