Chidimma Adetshina, a former Miss South Africa competitor, has shown an interest in winning Miss Universe Nigeria.
In an interview with News Live SA, the model, who recently arrived in Nigeria, expressed her excitement to be in her “father’s land” for the first time in 20 years.
The 23-year-old also showed an eagerness to discover and understand more about her Nigerian roots.
“I am just really excited that I am in my father’s land and I want to experience more about it. It has been 20 years since I have been here, so I just wanna get to know more about Nigeria’s culture and where I really come from,” she said.
Adetshina also expressed her desire to win the Miss Universe Nigeria title, adding, “My goal is to obviously win the crown”.
Chidimma was born in 2001 in Soweto’s Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. Her father is of Igbo heritage, and according to some stories, her mother is a Mozambican who has become a naturalized citizen of South Africa.
Her participation in Miss South Africa provoked outrage due to concerns about her nationality. This sparked criticism on social media, especially among South Africans.
The South African Ministry of Home Affairs launched an investigation following the issue.
Chidimma withdrew from Miss South Africa and accepted an invitation to participate in Miss Universe Nigeria.
Chidimma will represent Taraba state in the Miss Universe Nigeria contest, as confirmed by the organisers.
