Nigerian musician Anthony Ebuka Victor, often known as Victory, has had four surgeries following a car accident.
In April 2021, the ‘Soweto’ hitmaker was involved in a tragic accident, resulting in one death and three injuries.
The singer had his first operation in the same year.
In a recent appearance on the Afrobeats podcast, Victony discussed his health issues after the accident.
The 23-year-old musician stated that he is still recovering and has undergone four operations since the incident that nearly killed him.
Victory, who had previously announced his planned North America tour, stated that he would undergo one more surgery following the tour.
He also confessed that he uses pain medications before playing onstage.
“Honestly, I am blessed and the whole world can see. I’m still in the recovery phase but I’m still able to do this now. I’m about to go on tour,” he said.
“Thinking about last year, even up until recently, I’ve done four surgeries and after the tour, I am still going to do one more.
“But it’s still a blessing. Going to the hospital and seeing other people there but I go in and out and do my thing.
“I take pain relievers before I go on stage and I still record. I feel blessed and I thank God for his grace, it’s not by power. I’m not his favourite child so I don’t know why he is blessing me.”
Victony rose to prominence a few years ago after working with Mayorkun on ‘Holy Father’.
He is signed to Mainland Block Party, a musical label run by Nigerian music executive Tobi Mohammed.
In February 2023, the singer declared a two-month sabbatical from music following his third operation.
He viewed his accident as a “blessing in disguise”.
In June, he released his debut album, ‘Stubborn’. Victony discussed rapper Olamide’s influence on the debut album.
