Jaiye Kuti Reveals Why She Didn’t Divorce Her Husband

Jaiye Kuti, an actress and filmmaker, recently made headlines when she declared that many married women, including herself, wished to end their marriages. According to her, she attempted to escape her marriage three times.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, she emphasized the importance of understanding and forgiveness when dealing with marriage issues. She explained, “I wanted people to understand that marriage is not a bed of roses. I want women to realize that understanding is essential to the success of any marriage, because love alone is insufficient. Yes, you should love one another. However, there will come a point when you will look at each other and wonder how you got married in the first place. That’s when understanding comes in. Both couples must recognize that everyone is human and capable of making mistakes. If the individuals involved are unwilling to forgive each other, they will be unable to maintain their marriage.

“What if your hubby cheated? Even males who don’t cheat may have other concerns. I’ve been married for over twenty years. If I include the time we were courting, it totals 25 years. My spouse actually paid for my studies at the University of Lagos before we married in 2000.”

The actress went on to say that young people should be aware that they will not always be happy, in love, or romantic.

Kuti responded to women who claim that their marriages will be trouble-free due of their religious views, saying, “There is nothing like Jesus will not let my marriage to be like that. Marriage has been designed to present obstacles, whether one likes it or not, and whether one is a Christian, Muslim, or even an atheist. Marriages are inevitably difficult, and one must accept this.”
