Nigeria coach Jose Peseiro praised Victor Osimhen for his “fantastic” performance in the Super Eagles’ 2-0 win over Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday.

“He didn’t score, but he played an excellent game. “It is difficult to stop that guy,” Portuguese coach Peseiro stated after the last-16 match in Abidjan.

Ademola Lookman scored both goals, but Osimhen set up the first with his incredible sprinting and pressuring, which caused frequent issues for Cameroon’s defence.

“Ask the opposition’s defenders how much they suffered. He created the first goal. “He is fantastic for our team,” Peseiro said.

“Nobody can win a match alone, everybody has to play, but he is a good example.”

Nigeria, the three-time champions, will now face Angola in a quarterfinal next Friday, and it is unclear whether goalie Stanley Nwabili would be fit to play after being stretchered off late against Cameroon.

“It is not feasible to assess the situation immediately. We need 24-48 hours to know, but if he can’t recover, we’ll play with another goalie,” Peseiro said.

Peseiro said that Angola, which won their group and then defeated Namibia 3-0 in the last 16 on Saturday, is a very good team. I believe that all of the teams have a chance to win the tournament right now.

“Angola have performed very well, and if we want to beat them we must do our best, like today.”
