Mitchell Elegbe, the Founder and Group Managing Director (GMD) of Interswitch Group, Africa’s leading integrated payments and digital commerce company, was honored with the prestigious 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award at the CIO Awards Africa, which took place on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the MUSON Centre in Onikan, Lagos.
Elegbe was honored for his excellent achievements and effect on Nigeria’s technology environment.
He was chosen as the recipient of this prestigious award after a careful screening procedure by a renowned panel of senior Information Technology (IT) executives from diverse businesses.
The CIO Awards Africa, organized by Edniesal Consulting Limited, were created to honor outstanding individuals, entrepreneurs, senior technology professionals, veterans, and icons in the IT sector.
Through ground-breaking transformative projects, these individuals have made significant contributions to the IT sector and added value to their enterprises and industries.
Mitchell Elegbe was recognized for his creative thinking, strategic vision, and relentless dedication to excellence.
His leadership has not only catapulted Interswitch to new heights, but has also acted as an inspiration to the next generation of IT professionals in Nigeria and around the world.
Elegbe, who was represented by Interswitch’s Executive Vice President, Strategy, Ndifreke Nkose, expressed his gratitude for the award and stressed the Interswitch team’s combined efforts, stating:

Mitchell Elegbe has received numerous awards for his visionary leadership, including the 2015 Harvard Business School Association (Nigeria) Leadership Award for the General Management Category, the African Banker Icon Award in 2019, the Institute of Directors of Nigeria’s Entrepreneurial Award in 2021, and, most recently, induction into the Ernst and Young (EY) World Entrepreneur of the Year (WEOY) Hall of Fame, following his emergence as the EY Entrepreneur of the Year.
