Ilerioluwa Oladimeji is a rising star in the Nigerian music industry, better known by his stage name Mohbad. The young musical genius is a multi-faceted artist who is a rapper, singer, and songwriter who became a national sensation after signing to Marlian Records by Naira Marley. He rose to international prominence after collaborating with recording artist and producer Rexxie on the release of Ko Po Ke (KPK).
Early Life and Education.
Mohbad Oba Imole was born in the mid-1990s to Mr. and Mrs. Oladimeji. He was born on June 8, 1996, in Ketu, Lagos State. Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba invaded Instagram with the popular nickname MohBad, who also goes by “Imole.” He became a household name through a series of Instagram music skits in which he did covers of popular songs and also went on to release his own tracks.
He completed his primary school education at a leading private school and his middle and high school education at a top public school in Lagos State, where he obtained his first school leaving certificate and SSCE certificate.
Career
Mohbad is said to have begun his music career at a young age, primarily with rap songs. Because of the competitive nature of the industry, he added singing while growing up in music and understanding the importance of being versatile as a Nigerian rapper.
Since it is a trademark that as a rapper in Nigeria, you have to know how to sing unless you want to be cashing out big compared to the singers, Mohbad Oba Imole didn’t miss out on that moving train as he not only ventured into the singing aspect of music but also perfected his singing sound.
His major breakthrough came after he was signed to Naira Marley’s Marlian Records alongside Zinoleesky, Fabian Blu, and C Blvck. This was his biggest breaking deal in the industry since his invasion.
However, Mohbad took a crucial choice just two years ago, breaking ties with Marlian Records in 2022. This decision followed a public spat between Mohbad and his previous label boss, Naira Marley. Naira Marley was accused of domestic violence by the young artist, who said he was physically assaulted on the behest of his former mentor. Mohbad’s decision to find a separate management to oversee his music and business operations sparked this ugly split.
Personal Life
The singer lives in Lekki, Lagos state, in a serviced apartment building. He owns two exotic cars, both of which can be found in his garage. Oba Imole is another name for him.
His labelmates, Zinoleesky, C Blvck, and Fabian Blu, are close friends. His parents are pastors in a white garment church, but his siblings and other family members are unknown. Mohbad is a brand influencer in addition to being a musician. He uses his celebrity to help brands in the country sell their products and services.
Legal issues also hampered the young artist’s journey. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) captured Mohbad, along with fellow musician Zinoleesky and four others, in February 2022. The arrest was made when hard narcotics, including MDMA and cannabis, were discovered in their home in Lagos’ upmarket Lekki neighborhood.
The arrest itself sparked outrage, with viral footage on social media showing NDLEA agents forcibly invading the musicians’ residence in the early hours of a Thursday morning. Witnesses reported that the arrest took place without search warrants and that the Marlian singers were mistreated throughout the operation. Images of NDLEA cops wielding clubs and firing warning shots into the air as they herded artists into waiting vehicles circulated widely.
Net Worth
Mohbad net worth is currently estimated at $200,000 – $350,000.
