Toyin Lawani, a Nigerian fashion entrepreneur, has pushed the frontiers of inventiveness with her latest design: a garment constructed from dollar bills for Jamaican singer Spice.
Lawani, 42, known for her unusual approach to fashion, published photographs of the garment on Instagram, claiming it was constructed in only three days for Spice’s Vevo UK concert.
To make the one-of-a-kind outfit, the fashion designer, Toyin Ajoke Muyinat Lawani-Adebayo, stated that she began with a blue gown. She then clipped dollar bills to the outfit to produce the desired effect.
“Imagine her in Yaba market right now, I know she will go home naked. Making the dress in 3 days was one hella stressful. I had to make sure the money pop well,” she wrote.
“So I had to create a base and clip the money on top, so it shows the bills well. While reflecting the spice factor, it is blue color under the base of the dress.”
However, the garment has stirred debate about the legality of the currency used, leading people to wonder whether the dollar bills are genuine or counterfeit.
Lawani’s amazing portfolio includes designs for a variety of celebrities that incorporate uncommon materials such as balloons, flatware, fried chicken, paper bags, and crayons.
Spice, 42, is a Jamaican dancehall DJ, singer, and songwriter.
Born Grace Latoya Hamilton, the self-proclaimed ‘Queen of Dancehall’ is one of the world’s most well-known dancehall artists.
