Chidimma Adetshina, the recently crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, has explained why she closed her X (Twitter) account.
In an interview with Arise TV, the 23-year-old model revealed that she deleted her X page due of bad reaction from critics.
Chidimma, who admitted to frequently reading user comments, stated that the toxicity was the reason she left the microblogging network.
“I’m not on Twitter. I had to delete it because I felt like it was too much for me. I’m a comment reader so I read each and every comment; that’s the thing,” she said.
“So for me, I could spend 80% of my day reading comments. I’d read the comments and all and it became toxic for me. I use Instagram but I did limit my comment section one time.”
Chidimma was born in 2001 in Soweto’s Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. Her father is of Igbo heritage, and according to some stories, her mother is a Mozambican who has become a naturalized citizen of South Africa.
The model’s nationality stirred controversy at this year’s Miss South Africa contest.
This sparked criticism on social media, especially among South Africans. Chidimma later withdraws from the Miss South Africa pageant.
The DHA of South Africa accused Chidimma’s mother of fraud and identity theft, prompting her withdrawal.
She denied stealing anyone’s identity in response to recent charges.
