Blaqbonez, a Nigerian rapper, has been named one of the 50 innovators defining the future of rap by Rolling Stone.
Blaqbonez was the sole Nigerian rapper on the list, which was released over the weekend.
Rolling Stone praised the rapper’s audacity in pronouncing himself the “best rapper in Africa” in the story.
The magazine also praised Blaqbonez’s dedication to his craft and lyrical agility, which he displays both in the studio and on social media.
“Blaqbonez has been declaring himself the ‘best rapper in Africa’ for nearly as long as he’s been rapping publicly,” Rolling Stones wrote.
“We’re not weighing in on that Best Rapper in Africa title, but Blaqbonez’s willingness to declare it,
“His unflinching drive to live up to it, and the skill of his execution — be it in the blazing booth or cracking jokes on social media — is why we are not mad at it.”
JAE5, Lola Brooke, Ice Spice, Saucy Santana, Alchemist, and Danny G Beats are among the other rappers on the list.
Blaqbonez’s breakthrough moment came with the publication of his debut studio album, ‘Bad Boy Blaq,’ in 2018.
His 2021 album ‘S*x Over Love’ has received favorable feedback from music fans as he continues to carve up a successful career in the entertainment sector.
Last year, the rapper made his directorial debut.
In May, he collaborated with American rapper Ludacris on his single titled ‘Cinderella Girl’.
