Why I Stayed Off Twitter – Actress Funke Akindele Reveals

Funke Akindele, a Nigerian actress turned politician, claims she avoids Twitter because of the platform’s vitriolic abuse.

Since the end of the 2023 general election, the film producer has been on and off the microblogging site.

During the March 18 election, Akindele was the running mate for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate Olajide ‘Jandor’ Adediran.

However, the PDP was defeated by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the current governor and candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

A fan asked the actress, who lately engaged some of her fans in a dialogue, why she hasn’t been active on the app.

“Madm Funke Akindele I site you… longest time… you run away for us abi wot happen,” the fan wrote.

In response, Akindele said she stayed away to avoid the incessant toxic comments from trolls on Twitter.

“Dem too Dey insult people on this app so I stay off. How are you ?” Funke replied.

Apparently stunned by her response, another user asked “You? Afraid of people? No way.”

The movie star also replied by saying she’s not afraid but careful.

“No I’m not afraid!! I’m just careful ❤️❤️,” she wrote.

On March 20, Akindele cleared all her political-related posts on her Instagram page.

Akindele rose to prominence in 2008 for her movie ‘Jenifa’, which gained commercial success.
