Olawunmi Toriola is an Ogun state-born Nigerian actress, film producer, and entrepreneur. She is known as Queen Lateefah, and her stage name is Wunmi Toriola, which is derived from her given name. She first appeared in the film “Isese Lagba,” which was produced by Tawa Ajisefeni. The film catapulted her to fame by making her a household name due to the strength and vigor with which she approaches her acting.

Early Life and Education

Wunmi Toriola was born on July 11, 1988, in Lagos State, Nigeria, to Mr. and Mrs. Toriola. The actress was born into a family of four, lost her mother when she was young, and grew up with her father. She attended secondary school in Lagos and is from Ogun State, Nigeria.

Wunmi earned a degree in Linguistics from the University of Ilorin, as well as a Diploma in Theatre Arts from Odunfa Caucus, a Yoruba theatre organization founded by industry veterans such as Yinka Quadri and Taiwo Hassan, among others.


Wunmi Toriola began acting at Odunfa Caucus, a Yoruba theater group founded by Yinka Quadri, Taiwo Hassan (Ogogo), Abbey Lanre, Sunny Ali, and Razak Ajao, in 2009. In 2018, she was named “Fastest Rising Actress (Yoruba)” at the City People Awards.

She went from being an actress to becoming a movie producer after a few years of learning the ropes of acting. Since beginning her acting career, she has produced over 13 films and appeared in over 100. “Ajewunmi,” her first film, was released in 2012 and catapulted her to fame.


Personal Life

On May 13, 2018, Wunmi Toriola married a man from the United States whom she met on Facebook. Her husband’s name is unknown to the public; the couple welcomed their first child, Zion, in December 2019.


During the pregnancy of their son Zion, rumors spread that her marriage had ended. This began after she deleted all of her husband’s photos from her social media accounts a few weeks after the birth of their son, and she denied the reports, claiming they were deleted on purpose.

Another controversy erupted when she was accused of assaulting her maid and abandoning her on the side of the road after forcing her to sign an undertaking in a police station.

Wunmi Toriola’s maid, Motunrayo Azeez, claims that the actress’s husband also summoned a soldier to beat her up in their home after accusing her of drugging her son.
