Dancer, business owner, musician, and TV personality Omoyeni Anikulapo-Kuti (born May 24, 1961), also known as Yeni Kuti or YK, is from Ghana. She is a member of the family Ransome-Kuti. Her grandmother was Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, a supporter of women’s rights in Nigeria. Yeni Kuti was the inspiration for Felabration, a music festival held to celebrate her late father Fela Kuti’s contributions to Nigerian culture and society.
Early Life and Education
Yeni Kuti was born on May 24, 1961, in England to afrobeat icon Fela Kuti and a British mother. At the age of 2, the family returned to Nigeria. She completed her primary and secondary schooling in Lagos State before enrolling in the Nigerian Institute of Journalism’s journalism program there.
Career
In 1986, she gave up her job as a fashion designer to join Femi’s band as a vocalist and dancer. She currently shares management of the New Afrika Shrine with her brother, Femi Kuti.

Femi Segun and Yeni Kuti were married, however they divorced before her husband’s passing. Femi Kuti, Seun Kuti, and Made Kuti are just a few of the Kuti Dynasty’s other members.
