14-Year-Old British-Nigerian Named Victim of London Daytime Sword Attack

Daniel Anjorin, a 14-year-old kid slain in a sword attack in London this week, was named by UK police, who also disclosed more information about how the deadly rampage occurred.

The boy died on Tuesday morning while walking to school in Hainault, east of Britain’s capital, when he was assaulted by a man holding what seemed to be a Samurai-style sword.

Police tased and arrested the suspect, a 36-year-old male who is still in detention on charges of murder. He has not been identified and was previously unknown to police.

Anjorin’s independent school issued a statement on Wednesday, expressing “profound shock and sorrow” over the pupil’s death.

“He was a true scholar, with admirable commitment to his academic studies. “His positive nature and gentle character will leave an indelible impression on us,” said Bancroft’s in Woodford Green, near Hainault.

At before 7:00 a.m. (0600 GMT), a 33-year-old man was stabbed in the neck after a van collided with a house fence.

A 35-year-old male was then attacked inside an adjacent residence, resulting in arm lacerations, before Anjorin was slain.

Police arrived on the location 12 minutes after the initial emergency call and attempted to neutralize the man using incapacitant spray and a Taser gun, but with little success.

The suspect critically injured two police officers, both of whom underwent surgery on Tuesday and are in the hospital.

According to the Met, one of the victims was a woman who sustained severe arm injuries and nearly lost her hand.

The suspect escaped again as scared witnesses sought refuge in houses, but officers used a Taser to subdue him and detained him 22 minutes after the initial report.

Police have stated that the attack was not terrorist-related.

It happened amid an increase in stabbings in the United Kingdom, and just before voters decide whether to re-elect London Mayor Sadiq Khan for a record third term in municipal elections on Thursday.

Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has criticized the opposition Labour Party’s Khan over his criminal past.

Anjorin’s death is the second recent tragedy to strike Bancroft’s; a former student, Grace O’Malley-Kumar, was killed in Nottingham last year while attempting to save a friend from a knife assailant.

Valdo Calocane was sentenced to indefinite psychiatric hospital detention after fatally stabbing 19-year-old O’Malley-Kumar, fellow student Barnaby Webber, and 65-year-old school caretaker Ian Coates.
