Abdul Samad Rabiu has begun work on a cutting-edge N2.5 billion oncology clinic in Ilorin, a bustling city in Kwara State in North Central Nigeria.
Following the groundbreaking ceremony for the oncology facility, which will serve as a regional healthcare beacon for the entire West African region, construction work has begun under the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa).
This effort is just one component of the ASR Africa initiative’s diverse tertiary-level health initiatives, which are funded by the Tertiary Health Systems Support Grant scheme.
Following a visionary proposal by the state’s executive governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, which outlined plans for Nigeria’s largest oncology research, diagnostic, and treatment facility, Kwara State was chosen as one of the federation’s recipient states.
This enormous project, which will be overseen directly by ASR Africa and carried out in collaboration with stakeholders, will be outfitted with cutting-edge oncology diagnostic and treatment technology. It would provide Nigerians and international patients with access to world-class oncology treatments, allowing for early identification and treatment of all types of cancer.
When completed, the oncology center would restore Nigeria as a global hub for high-quality, low-cost cancer diagnosis and treatment in the West African sub-region. This program demonstrates Rabiu’s consistent commitment to improving public access to high-quality healthcare.
ASR Africa, which Rabiu founded in April 2021, is a philanthropic organization dedicated to achieving long-term impact in the areas of health, education, and social development across the African continent. Rabiu, Africa’s fifth-richest individual and Nigeria’s second-richest man, has a net worth of $6.5 billion, according to Forbes.
ASR Africa, a philanthropic organization dedicated to fostering long-term change in Africa’s health, education, and social sectors, has already distributed N10 billion in grants of N2.5 billion to four states as part of its Tertiary Health Systems Support Grant initiative.
Rabiu received considerable acclaim in 2022 for establishing the Nigeria Security Support Fund, a ground-breaking $23.8 million project. The donation is still the largest philanthropic gesture made by a Nigerian to date.
The fund was formed to offer important resources to security forces, critical medical supplies, and assistance to the families of troops fighting terrorism in Nigeria’s northeastern region.
