Early Life and Education
Ali Nuhu was born on March 15, 1974, in Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria’s northeastern region. His father, Nuhu Poloma, was from Gombe State’s Balanga town, and his mother, Fatima Karderam Digema, was from Borno State’s Bama Local Government Area. He was born in Jos and raised in Kano State.
Ali began his primary school education at Riga Special Primary School from 1979 to 1985. Later, from 1986 to 1988, he attended Kano State’s Government Secondary Commercial School, where he earned his Junior Secondary School Certificate. From 1989 to 1991, he also attended the Science Secondary School Dawakin Tofa, where he earned his Senior Secondary School Leaving Certificate.
He earned a bachelor of arts degree in Geography from the University of Jos after finishing secondary school. He served his National Service in the city of Ibadan, Oyo State. He later studied film production and cinematic arts at the University of Southern California. In 2018, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by ISM Adonai American University in Benin Republic.
Career
Nuhu made his acting debut in the 1999 film Abin sirri ne. He is best known for his performance in Sangaya, one of the highest-grossing Hausa films at the time. Ali Nuhu appeared in several sequel films, including Azal, Jarumin Maza, and Stinda, for which he received the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (2007). Nuhu celebrated his 20th anniversary in the entertainment industry in 2019, having appeared in over 500 films.
