Akinmayokun Awodumila is May D’s real name. He is a Nigerian dancer, singer, and songwriter. He had a formal record contract with Square Records, which was owned by R&B duo P-Square.

Early Life & Education

May D was born on the 28th of December, 1984, in Lagos, Nigeria, into a family of seven. He studied mass communication at the University of Lagos(Unilag).

Career

He rose to prominence in Lagos in 2011, the same year he signed with the Square Records label. On May 13, 2011, he released his debut single, “SoundTrack,” through Square Records. On August 21, 2012, May D’s departure from the label was publicly confirmed. The video, directed by Clarence Peters, was uploaded on January 12, 2012, and had over 83,702 views on YouTube before the label deleted it from their channel, which had over 10 million views.

On September 25, 2012, May D established Confam Entertainment, an independent music company. He also announced on his Twitter account that he had signed with Davido Music Worldwide on July 18, 2020.

Personal Life

Adebola Olowoporoku and May D began dating in 2007, and she gave birth to a boy named “Olamipoju” for May D in 2013. When the couple split in 2014, it signified the end of their romance. May D has been dating Carolina Wassmuth, a Swedish woman, since 2014.

Controversy

On August 27, 2015, May D was arrested for utilizing his Hover Board. He threatened to sue Ikeja City Mall for spraying him with tear gas solely because he was riding a hoverboard there. He also claimed that he was accosted and nearly shot for riding a hoverboard in a Shoprite.

On April 6, 2015, Debola, May D’s son’s mother, emailed Linda Ikeji to allege domestic abuse as a result of being battered by the singer.

May D’s manager and cousin, Oreoluwa Akinbode, later denied beating women on April 4, 2015.
