Mohbad: Actress Iyabo Ojo Cancels Rally Over ‘Fear Of Hijack By Hoodlums’

Iyabo Ojo, a Nollywood actress, has called off her rally in Lagos to demand justice for Mohbad’s killing.

Mohbad, 27, passed away on September 12 and was buried the next day.

The circumstances surrounding the 27-year-old’s death have sparked debate on social media.

Thousands of Nigerian teenagers marched through the streets with placards on Tuesday, while others held candlelight processions in Mohbad’s honor.

Ojo had previously stated that a demonstration from Oba Akran to the Lagos state executive and legislative buildings will take place on Wednesday.

But in a statement on Tuesday night, the actress said the “peaceful” protest will no longer hold based on “reservations by the law enforcement agents that, it could be hijacked by unscrupulous persons and miscreants”.

The statement added that some members of Ojo’s team will visit the Lagos state government offices to “register their concerns”.

“The cancellation of the peaceful walk, is predicated on the reservations expressed by the law enforcement agents that, it could be hijacked by unscrupulous persons and miscreants, thereby endangering the lives and property.” the statement reads in part.

“In view of the foregoing, our clients have hereby resolved to forge ahead alongside with only few members of the foundation to visit the above named offices in a bid to register their concerns and share views together for the ultimate goal of timeous delivery of justice.

“Conclusion, our clients appreciate the enormous support from several quarters and do trust the appropriate security agencies would not fail Mold’s family, fans the Nigerian youths at this grievous hour.”

Davido had stated that he would be coming to Nigeria from the United Kingdom on Thursday to participate in a candlelight march in Lekki to honor Mohbad.

On Monday, the Lagos state police command established a 13-man special investigative team to look into the singer’s death.

The Lagos governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has also requested DSS agents to participate in the ongoing investigation into the singer’s death.
