According to a new assessment on employee well-being, Nigeria ranks fourth in the world for holistic health.
According to the McKinsey Health Institute’s 2023 assessment, Nigeria and Cameroon achieved the top places in African countries for employee well-being, both with 69%, followed by Egypt with 63%.
According to the Nigerian survey participants, 72% were in good social health, 69% were in good physical health, 79% were in good spiritual health, and 79% were in good mental health. The global average was 57%.

Meanwhile, Cameroonian survey respondents reported the lowest prevalence of burnout symptoms at work, at 9%. The global burnout rate was 20%. Cameroonian survey respondents also said that 74% were in good social health, 63% were in good physical health, 84% were in good spiritual health, and 80% were in good mental health.
According to the global poll, Turkey ranked first in terms of employee well-being, while Japan ranked worst with 25%. The survey revealed that employees who had great work experiences reported better overall health, were more innovative at work, and had enhanced job performance, with Turkey ranking first at 78%, followed by India at 76% and China at 75%.
Japan ranked bottom in a global survey of employee well-being, with a score of 25%. According to poll respondents from Japan, 30% were in good social health, 74% were in good physical health, 24% were in spiritual health, and 42% were in mental health.
The survey indicated that 22% of employees in 30 nations are suffering burnout symptoms at work, with significant differences between countries.
It noted that, “Organizational, team, job, and individual interventions that address demands and enablers can boost employee holistic health. These may include flexible working policies, leadership trainings, job crafting and redesign, and digital programs on workplace health.”
The McKinsey Health Institute published the results of a survey of over 30,000 workers from 30 nations. To create the survey, they analyzed their social, mental, spiritual, and physical well-being.
