Nigerian Startup GIFTY AI Wins Top Prize at World’s Largest Tech Event

GIFTY AI, a Nigerian startup that delivers an AI-powered sales growth assistant for e-commerce enterprises, has won first place in North Star’s Super Nova Challenge at GITEX 2023, the world’s largest tech show.

The company’s win is a tremendous accomplishment for both Africa and the global tech world, and it establishes Africa as a hotspot for innovation and entrepreneurship.

The sales growth assistant from GIFTY AI assists e-commerce enterprises in automating their marketing and sales activities so that they can focus on developing their business.

The approach is particularly advantageous for small and medium-sized firms (SMEs), which frequently lack the resources to engage in traditional marketing and sales staff.

“Representing Africa in the Middle East was a tough one for me,” said Victor D. Akpan, CEO of GIFTY AI. “But I guess I followed my star from Africa to Expand North Star, Dubai.”

“We are building gifty.com.ng to let the world know that Africa is taking over!”

GITEX Global, the world’s leading tech event organizer, has announced that Morocco will host GITEX Africa again in 2024. Morocco has been chosen to host the tournament for the second year in a row.

Trixie Lohmirmand, CEO of GITEX Africa organizer KAOUN International, justified the choice to hold GITEX Africa in Morocco again next year.

“We are delighted to return to Morocco for GITEX Africa 2024,” said Lohmirmand. “Morocco is a rapidly growing tech ecosystem, and we are confident that the event will be another success.”

When asked about the decision to host the event in Morocco instead of Nigeria, the country with the largest tech ecosystem, Lohmirmand explained:

  • “There are very different entry formats into a market and we go where our clients want us to go. When we enter into a market, we want to make sure that we have deep collaboration with the government to deliver the level of standard and the trust that the committee has given to us, and sometimes these things take time. Markets also change and evolve, so it’s not usually straightforward to enter into markets, but we are open to new markets and eager to explore.”

GITEX Africa is a significant forum for African startups to present their goods and services to the global IT community. Investors, policymakers, and other key stakeholders from the African tech sector attend the event as well.
