Skales Biography: Inside The Life Of The Nigerian Rapper

Raoul John Njeng-Njeng is a Nigerian rapper, musician, and composer better known by his stage moniker Skales (an abbreviation for Seek Knowledge, Acquire Large Entrepreneurial Skills). Around the year 2000, he began writing rap songs in Kaduna, Nigeria. In 2008, he won first place in the North Central division of the Zain Tru Search competition. He signed a record deal with Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E.) in 2009, then quit to launch his own company, “OHK Music record label.”

Early Life and Education

Skales was born on April 1, 1991, in Kaduna State, Nigeria, where he has spent the most of his life. He was born in Edo State. Raoul John Njeng-mother Njeng’s divorced his father when he was six years old, leaving him to be raised in a single-parent family by his mother, who was a teacher and also took menial jobs to nurture him because his father molest her and moved out with another woman.

He attended primary and secondary school in Kaduna State during his formative years. Skales dropped out of the University of Jos (Unijos) and enrolled at Lead City University in Ibadan, where he studied office management and technology.

Career

Raoul began writing rap songs in the year 2000 in Kaduna, Nigeria. He visited Jos between 2007 and 2008 to work with Jesse Jagz and Jeremiah Gyang. In 2008, he won first place in the North Central division of the Zain Tru Search competition. His debut single “Must Shine” was played on Rhythm FM stations in Lagos, Jos, and Abuja. Later, he relocated to Lagos, where he signed a record deal with Empire Mates Entertainment in 2009.

Skales has collaborated with a variety of musicians, including Akon, eLDee, Tekno, Harmonize, Jeremiah Gyang, Banky W, and Knighthouse. Shake Body, Mukulu, Keresimesi, Komole, My Baby, Take Care of Me, and Denge Pose are some of his well-known songs. He left E.M.E. in May 2014 to launch the independent record label OHK Music. His debut studio album, “Man of the Year,” was released in 2015.

“Shake Body,” the lead single from Skales’ first studio album, Man of the Year, was released on May 6, 2014. It was produced by Jay Pizzle. To promote the single, Skales announced the Shake Body video contest.

Personal Life

Skales was injured in a car crash on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in December 2011. He was in a car that flipped after hitting a ditch. The accident killed one person and injured three others.

Skales reportedly left E.M.E. and signed a record deal with Timaya’s Dem Mama Records. Skales denied the rumors, claiming that he did not sign with Dem Mama Records in February 2014.

He joined a slew of other celebrities in criticizing Desmond Elliot for proposing social media regulation in October 2020, including Davido and Super Eagles star John Ogu.

Skales is thought to be in a committed relationship. On March 14, 2021, he announced his engagement to his girlfriend, Hassanity Precious, on Instagram.
