Uche Jombo Biography: Education, Career, Marriage, Movies, and Awards

Uche Jombo is a well-known Nigerian actress, producer, and screenwriter with a long and successful film career. She founded Uche Jombo Studios, a film production and distribution company. She has been active and involved in the film industry since her Nollywood debut in 2009. She also played an important role in the recently released Blood Sisters film series.

Early Life & Education

Uche Jombo was born on December 28, 1979, in Abiriba, Abia State, Nigeria. Growing up was a difficult experience for actress Jombo. When she was very young, her mother nurtured her and enrolled her in their church theater group. She was consistently recognized as the top drama student in secondary school. Her tuition had to be paid for by her mother’s church during her secondary school years.

She graduated from the University of Calabar with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and statistics and a master’s degree in computer programming from the Federal University of Technology, Minna.


Uche Jombo made her debut in the Nigerian film industry in 1999 with a role in the film Visa to Hell. As a screenwriter, she has written and co-written several films, including The Celebrity, Games Men Play, Girls in the Hood, and A Time to Love. Jombo went on to make films such as Nollywood Hustlers, Holding Hope, and Damage, a domestic abuse documentary.

She has appeared in over 200 Nigerian movies. Her 20 screenwriting credits include Games Men Play, Lies Men Tell, Holding Hope, A Mother’s Fight, Unconditional, A Time to Love, Be My Wife, and Celebrity.

In 2008, she began executive producing her own films through her production company, Uche Jombo Studios. She married Kenny Rodriguez in 2012 and began directing in 2015, following the birth of her son Matthew. Among her directed films are Lost in Us, How I Saved My Marriage, and the Nollywood box office true-life film Heaven on My Mind.

On November 30th, 2018, she was one of several celebrities, including Omoni Oboli, Laura Ikeji, and others, who helped launch GrandLux Cafe in Lekki. In 2012, the talented actress co-starred in the Ebony Life TV reality show Screen Divas with Rita Dominic, Funke Akindele, and Kate Henshaw. These four female actors collaborated on the short film New Horizon. The film, directed by Tope Oshin, addressed women’s mistreatment and domestic violence.

In 2022, Uche Jombo also acted in the popular Blood Sister movie series, alongside prominent Nollywood actors such as Ramsey Noah, Gabriel Afolayan, Deyemi Okanlawon, among others.

In 2012, Uche Jombo got married to Kenny Rodriguez. In 2015, the couple was blessed with a boy, Matthew.


Within the 3 years period of 2010 to 2013, Uche Jombo served as an ambassador for Globacom.
