1. It is currently a region which forms part of south-eastern Nigeria and transcends several Nigerian states
2. It is predominantly populated by the Igbo people, but also the Efik, Ibibio, Annang, Ejagham, Eket, Ibeno and the Ijaw ethnic groups
3. As a consequence of the Nigerian Civil War (Biafra war) it managed to secede from Nigeria, and between May 1967 and January 1970 it operated as a quasi-state known as the Republic of Biafra

4. During it’s period of independence it had it’s own currency, the Biafra Pound
5. During the Biafra War, Biafra formed it’s own airforce
6. Over 2 million Biafran civilians died during the Nigerian Civil War
7. Biafra encompasses Nigeria’s Delta Region, which is where a large portion of Nigeria’s oil reserves can be found
