Rema Biography: Career, Songs, Awards, and Net Worth

Ikubor Divine aka Rema is a Nigerian musician and rapper. He is a talented young man who is one of the youngest singers in the Nigerian music industry. In 2019, he secured a record deal with Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records.

Early Life and Education

Rema was born on May 1, 2000 in Benin City, Edo State. He attended basic and high school in Edo State.

Rema was raised on Afrobeat and commercial rap. He formed a rap group with his religious buddies.

Rema and his friend Alpha P established the RnA group in 2013. The name of the band is a mash-up of the first letters of their stage names. RnA won the second season of Pikolo’s Dream Alive.

Soon after, they acquired a record deal with Peak Entertainment and released their debut single “Mercy.” The mid-tempo song was recorded at Benin City’s Dream Alive Studio. Whyte House Pictures directed the music video for “Mercy.” Following their appearance at the Glo Slide and Bounce concert series in Benin and Lagos, the trio garnered small notoriety.

In February 2018, he posted a video of himself freestyling to an instrumental version of D’Prince’s “Gucci Gang,” which piqued his interest in music.

D’Prince saw the video and contacted Rema, which resulted to her signing with Mavin.

Divine, also known as Rema, inked a record deal with D’Prince’s Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records, on March 22, 2019.

In 2019, he released his self-titled first EP “Rema.” He released the four-track EPs Rema, Freestyle, and Bad Command, which peaked at number one on Apple Music Nigeria.

He rose to prominence following the release of his song “Iron Man,” which was included on Barack Obama’s 2019 summer Playlist.

 

Award

Rema won Next Rated and was nominated for Viewer’s Choice at the 13th edition of The Headies on October 19, 2019. On January 12, 2020, he was awarded the Soundcity MVP for best new artist and the Afrimma Video of the Year.
