President Bola Tinubu has immediately removed Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele from office.
Willie Bassey, Director of Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, announced this in a statement on Friday night.
He explained that the CBN governor’s suspension was based on the investigation as well as the anticipated banking sector reforms.
According to Bassey, Emefiele has been asked to immediately take over the business of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate) until the inquiry and reforms are completed.
The statement partly read, ” President Bola Tinubu has suspended the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, from office with immediate effect

“Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms. “
