Landmark Group CEO, Paul Onwuanibe Addresses Worries over Lagos-Calabar Road Project

Landmark Africa, a renowned real estate and property development company led by Nigerian businessman Paul Onwuanibe, has released a press statement addressing concerns about the 1.5-kilometer Coastal Road project between Lagos and Calabar.

The company’s reservations over the project, which was granted to Hitech Road Construction Company, a subsidiary of Hitech Construction Company owned by Nigerian-Lebanese billionaire Gilbert Chagoury, have resulted in positive advances in recent conversations.

Notably, there are discussions about potentially rerouting a 1.5-kilometer section of the road to reduce disturbance while utilizing the undeveloped Water Corporation Road median, allowing for both project advancement and business continuity.

Landmark stressed its significant presence in Lagos in a statement about the Lagos-Calabar Coastal route development project, citing beachfront property acquisitions dating back to 2007, even before the coastal route was conceived in 2012. The corporation also emphasized the importance of the coastal road as an infrastructure project that will boost the area economy and improve connectivity.

Landmark Africa has engaged with stakeholders, including the Lagos State Government, the Federal and State Ministries of Tourism, and the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, to ensure that construction activities do not disrupt operations. The corporation expressed its commitment to finding mutually beneficial solutions, which resulted in positive progress through productive conversations with the government.

While conversations continue, Landmark has suggested various options, including rerouting a 1.5-kilometer part of the beachfront route. By utilizing the undeveloped median of Water Corporation Road, the corporation hopes to minimize interruption to current businesses while allowing the project to go smoothly.

Landmark Africa, a major real estate and property development company created by Paul Onwuanibe, with a 20-year history and a broad portfolio of over 130,000 square meters of mixed-use space. Over 5,000 organizations, including global corporations, use the company’s residential, recreational, and office development services.

As it navigates talks around the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project, its dedication to constructive engagement and mutually beneficial solutions emphasizes its critical role in creating Nigeria’s infrastructure landscape. With encouraging advancements on the horizon, stakeholders are still optimistic about the project’s ability to boost economic growth and improve regional connectivity.
