Promise Aloba, the late singer’s mother, has begged with the federal government to assist her in “fishing out” Naira Marley and uncovering the truth about her son’s death.
According to HowNG, Aloba addressed on Thursday during a condolence visit to the family in Lagos by Elisha Abbo, chairman of the House Committee on Entertainment Economy; Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh, Nollywood stars.
Mohbad’s mother, who spoke in Yoruba, said that Naira Marley, the owner of Marlian Records, was involved in her son’s death.
Mohbad, the street pop singer, died on September 12 and was buried the next day.
He was formerly signed to Naira Marley’s Marlian Records but left the label in 2022.
Aloba alleged that her late son had always complained about serious threats to his life by Naira Marley and some other individuals.
“I know my son, he told me that Naira Marley usually threatened him. Please Nigerians help me to look for him; please have mercy on me; that is all you can do for me,” she said while breaking down in tears.
“I cannot singlehandedly fish him out. Also, he told me the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) gave him some water in a bottle to drink sometime ago. Help me, please.
“My son was always beaten. He mentioned Sam Larry, but I don’t know them. They enslaved my son.
“He was always telling me to guide him so he would not be killed, these were all he was saying until they finally killed him. Please help me.”
Abbo, a senator, promised Mohbad’s mother protection and an investigation into the circumstances of his death.
He also promised to lead the fight for a commission on the creative economy.
He stated that the commission’s goal is to address problems in the creative business, such as those involving record companies and artist contracts.
“It will also help in preventing situations where individuals resort to self-help,” Abbo said.
The police in Lagos on Thursday announced that it has completed the exhumation of the body of Mohbad to conduct an autopsy as part of further investigation into his death.
